Privacy Policy
Split Screen Navigator
Effective date: July 16, 2026
Split Screen Navigator has no developer-operated server, account system, advertising, analytics, or tracking. The developer does not receive, sell, or share your browsing data.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how the Split Screen Navigator Chrome extension handles information when you use its two-pane browsing interface.
2. Information handled by the extension
The extension handles the following information only to provide its visible features:
- Browsing activity: the URLs and page titles of websites loaded inside the extension's split-screen panes.
- User input: URLs or search terms that you enter in a pane's address bar.
- Home-page preference: a Home URL preference, if one is present in Chrome's synchronized extension storage.
The extension does not intentionally collect names, email addresses, passwords, authentication credentials, financial information, health information, personal communications, precise location, or the contents of forms.
3. How the information is used
- To load the website or search requested by you in the selected pane.
- To display the current URL in that pane's address bar.
- To provide Back, Forward, Home, and Reload controls for each pane.
- To maintain separate navigation history for the two panes while the split-screen tab is open.
The information is not used for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or any unrelated purpose.
4. Storage and retention
Navigation history maintained by the extension exists only in the memory of the open split-screen tab. It is cleared when that tab is closed or reloaded. The extension does not upload this history to the developer.
If a Home URL preference is stored through chrome.storage.sync, Chrome
may synchronize that preference through the user's Google account according to
Google's own privacy terms. The developer cannot access that synchronized value.
5. Disclosure and third-party websites
The developer does not receive, sell, rent, or transfer user data to third parties. The extension directly loads websites selected by you. As with ordinary browsing, those websites receive normal web requests and may independently handle information such as your IP address, cookies, and information you submit to them under their own privacy policies.
Text that is not recognized as a URL is sent to Google Search over HTTPS to perform the search requested by you. Split Screen Navigator is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party websites.
6. Extension permissions
- Access to websites: used to show user-selected sites in the two panes, report each framed page's current URL to the visible address bar, and apply the frame-related network rule needed for the split view.
- Declarative Net Request: used only for framed page requests to remove response headers that otherwise prevent a user-selected site from appearing inside a pane. The rule does not read or transmit page content to the developer.
- Storage: used to read the Home URL preference from Chrome storage.
7. Security
The extension contains no mechanism for transmitting user data to the developer. It uses HTTPS for generated Google searches and automatically adds HTTPS when a user enters a domain without a protocol. A website explicitly opened over HTTP remains subject to the security practices of that website.
8. Limited Use
Split Screen Navigator's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information handled through extension permissions is used only to provide or improve the extension's single purpose: displaying and navigating two user-selected websites side by side.
9. Children's privacy
The extension is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the extension's functionality or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when an update is published.
